GURU YOGA RETREAT with Venerable DUPSENG RINPOCHE

Wednesday 30th October 2019 - Sunday 3rd November 2019

For bookings, more information and time table please don't hesitate to contact us via email contact [@] jetavana.com.au

This retreat is an opportunity to reduce normal worldly activities, concentrating instead on developing spiritual qualities and peaceful minds, finding happiness from within.

This retreat is ideal for students who have taken refuge. Everyone is welcome to attend this retreat which will also include the opportunity to take Refuge with Dupseng Rinpoche. Students wishing to take refuge for the first time should contact us.

In the Buddhist tradition, the purpose of taking refuge is to awaken from confusion and associate oneself with wakefulness. Taking refuge is a matter of commitment and acceptance and, at the same time, of openness and freedom. By taking the refuge vow we commit ourselves to freedom.

"Throw your mind into the lama's wisdom mind, like tossing a stone into a lake!.. Were we to meet the Buddha in person, we could expect to receive nothing more than we receive from our spiritual teacher ... who is the embodiment of all the buddhas in one." Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse

Ven. Dupseng Rinpoche is a Buddhist master who inspires people with his fresh and energetic presentations on various topics within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.

Dupseng Rinpoche, Karma Kagyu, is retreat master, abbot, vajra guru to some, and spiritual friend and beloved teacher to many. He is the beloved and venerated teacher of many lay and monastic students and practitioners around the world. He travels the world teaching and guiding his students many months each year, and gives public teachings.

Dupseng Rinpoche is especially well versed in the Vajrayana teachings and transmission of Tibetan Buddhism. He has the approach of a yogi, who shares his realisation with everyone with humour, great strength and inspiration.

THE RETREAT

GURU YOGA - we are connecting our own Buddha-nature with the Buddha-nature of the spiritual teacher in order to gain the inspiration for us to realize our own Buddha-nature and fully actualize all its potentials.

It is represented by streams of light connecting the three places (the forehead, throat, and heart) of the spiritual teacher with ours – representing body, speech, and mind. It is like there is a conduit which is there to energize these aspects of Buddha-nature from the spiritual teacher to ours. Because it is easier to see it in the spiritual teacher than it is to see it in ourselves – the unity of those three.

Guru Yoga has both a sutra and a tantra level. The sutra level of it is of course the foundation and basis for the tantra level practice. It is incomplete to only do the tantra level practice by itself. The sutra entails basically working through the recognizing and focusing on the good qualities of the teacher that are actually there, appreciating the kindness of the teacher.

The tantra sadhanas, which are the standard practices in which you generate yourself as one of the Buddha-figures, all of them have as part of it a guru-yoga which is specific to that text.

The important thing is to actually feel some inspiration from positive qualities. To feel that inspiration in many ways depends on the karmic relationship that we have with the teacher. There can be a teacher who is incredibly well qualified, and yet we don’t feel anything with that teacher. Being with the teacher doesn’t move us, move our hearts or our feelings in any way. Whereas there can be another teacher that doesn’t have such great qualities, but because the karmic relation is so strong they really inspire us and move us.

This is the meaning of a “root guru.” A root guru is one that inspires us so much, that inspiration gives us the strength to grow throughout our spiritual path. It is the root from which the plant gets all of its nourishment and sustenance. So that is very important. That is the essential point. It is this inspiration, this feeling, being uplifted, energized, inspired from the teacher.

Buddhism is a very active path, we don’t just wait for somebody to save us. If we want to experience something, then we need to investigate what are the causes, and then build up those causes.

"I believe that the very purpose of life is to be happy. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. In my own limited experience I have found that the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being.Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It helps remove whatever fears or insecurities we may have and gives us the strength to cope with any obstacles we encounter. It is the principal source of success in life.Since we are not solely material creatures, it is a mistake to place all our hopes for happiness on external development alone. The key is to develop inner peace.”
